Where do I even begin? What was once a favorite childhood cartoon and toy is now realized into a live action film directed by one the biggest and best action movie directors out there. That is a heavy burden to bear. But it’s one this special effects giant managed to do. From the first scene on this movie was suspenseful, funny, gripping, and entertaining. And as long as you aren’t comparing it to Citizen Kane or Terminator, you will more than likely enjoy this popcorn film! If you’re looking for a hardcore action flick that is more fun than intellectual, then you are picking up the right movie.
In the beginning when the Decepticon attacks a military base in Qatar, the pace and tone is set for the rest of the movie. The sound, the graphics, and the scale of the entire attack is mind blowing. Heck, it was just cool! This giant robot destroyed an entire military base in a matter of minutes. A few survivors manage to escape unnoticed. Then……..
We are then introduced to Sam Whitwicky, our main protagonist for the film. He is a teenage boy who is slightly awkward, certainly high strung, but in his awkwardness very charismatic. In that setup we are presented with three important factors for the rest of the movie. The first is the glasses, the second his need for a car, and the third his desire for a teenage girl named Mikaela and then the movie really begins.
Everything was paced perfectly. It was over two hours and it seemed like a thirty minute show it blew by so fast. The actors did their jobs well. Standout’s were Megan Fox, her beauty was honestly almost distracting, Shia LaBeouf, Anthony Anderson, and especially Kevin Dunn and Julie White who played Sam Whitwicky’s parents. They were absolutely hilarious. Also, I would leave an honorable mention to Bumblebee, though he couldn’t talk and was a car, was more animated than most living breathing actors out there today.
The Climatic ending didn’t let you down, and ended with a cheesy voice over by Optimus Prime calling out the rest of the Autobots to find sanctuary on earth. As far as endings go, it was perfect for the movie it was trying to be. Transformers was a great, fun, silly, entertaining movie, and was definitely worth seeing on the big screen and definitely worth a rental. Transformers gets 3 out of 4 stars.
