Review
Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of the Pirates Of The Caribbean cast took the world by storm in 2003. This took most people by surprise considering the basis for the film was an amusement park ride in Disney world. Regardless, pirates are some of our favorite villains to love and hate, and Pirates Of The Caribbean gave us just that. Gore Verbinski paid homage to it’s Disney creation by using the ship, “The Black Pearl” and some of the sequences from the ride itself, but added was a fantastical script, exhilarating special effects, and some highly substantial performances by Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly, Geoffrey Rush, and the marvelous Johnny Depp.
What Pirates exudes is pure and simple action and fun. You can almost feel what a great time the cast and crew had making this film. Whether they predicted it’s box office surplus or not, the spirit of the films creation is clearly emoted in it’s enthusiastic finished product. Pirates hit the marker on what we love that’s cliche about Pirates, but also was clever enough to poke fun at itself without losings it’s dramatic integrity. With all the story book elements of great plots involving love story’s, maniacal villains, action, and hilarious dialogue, this film hits the marker as an adventure story that will go down in history with films like the Indiana Jones series, The Princess Bride, and Lord Of The Rings.

Pirates Of The Caribbean was all about it’s performances, and that is what greatly shined in this adventure. Captain Jack Sparrow has become one of the greatest iconic character’s ever on film and Johnny Depp’s strange interpretation of the madman pirate gave the world a fresh new way to view the cliched pirate persona. Of course Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, was the exact cliche embodied to the tenth power, but Rush played it so cleverly that it became both an homage and tongue in cheek. With all that crazy pirate action going on there is still the story of Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner, and their affection for one another. Orlando Bloom is a dashing hero, with a firecracker performance by Kiera Knightly as his main counterpart. Depp was without comparison a scene stealer, so much so his peculiar performance won him an Oscar nomination. In all fairness, every actor integrated to absolute perfection in each others character’s worlds. Everyone had phenomenal chemistry.
