The Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy
The Curse Of The Black Pearl
Dead Mans Chest
In some cases Dead Mans Chest reveled in what made the first film so outrageous and enjoying, but at times it felt as though it were caught in a spiderweb of special effects and an unnecessarily complicated plot. Dead Mans Chest had some of the right idea’s in conception, but some of it simply wasn’t executed well. Perhaps the pressure was on director GoreVerbinski and the writers; Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot to relive the success of The Black Pearl, which it’s success was a complete shock to the studio, and maybe it hampered some of the creative life force. On it’s own, it’s still a great fun action-adventure pirate movie, but only a so-so sequel. There were moments of clever ingenuity, but the entirety of the film never seemed to flow together. It seemed as entertaining, but also as sporadic as Captain Jack Sparrows brain itself. A fun addition to the series, but nothing spectacular.
At The Worlds End
The first hour of this film is so busy sending twists and turns of betrayal’s and plot confusion it’s literally difficult to know where you stand. Everyone is making deals with everyone that they clearly have no intention of keeping. While the chaos is disorienting, the curiosity of how the situations play out is compelling. At The Worlds End surely had it’s problematic issues, but in general they were overcome. With a grand finale to a fabulously entertaining trilogy that will last through the ages, At the Worlds End was entertaining and fun. With two huge movies before it, it found it’s footing and is a nice addition to it’s predecessors. It should have won the Oscar for special effects this year, but then that’s just my opinion, and not the Academy’s.
WHO WINS?
The battle between these trilogies is not a difficult one. While Dead Mans Chest and At Worlds End both managed to capture some of the great parts of The Curse Of The Black Pearl, the storytelling never came with the ease and simplicity of it. The character’s were still fun and exciting in the sequels, and some of the story lines entertaining, there was too much mix-match complicating, and too much a focus on the special effects to really recapture the brilliance of the original film. The Curse Of The Black Pearl was by far the best of the three, really hashing out a passionate romance, spontaneous and exciting character’s that were never better but in those moments in that film, with the utterly brilliant balance of plot and special effects. It was one of those remarkable surprises film every now and again creates, while the sequels desperately tried to recapture those moments of magic by compensating with too much extra going on. It’s a fantastically fun trilogy but not a difficult choice to pick The Curse Of The Black Pearl as the runaway best of the three.

Usually it’s the second film in a series that is the better of them all as the first one usually has to spend plenty of boring time introducing us to characters. Or at least that’s how it usually goes for me. I did like the first movie and I wasn’t really expecting to but with Johnny Depp in it I’m not sure how I could’ve hated it.
pretty much everything johnny depp does is good though. what’s this movie with him and christian bale. i saw one of the trailers. it actually looks boring to me.
