I must say that it is a very well put together list, with great thought gone into it. The Jurassic Park/toilet scene was always one of my favorites as a kid.

It is a pretty good list. I liked the addition of the Gremlins scene and the Woodchip scene from Fargo. Two scenes I had completely forgotten about.

Fantastic list…I dont know how you keep coming up with these every week. They are amazing. For honorable mention I would put the Sting because for first time watchers it’s quite a surprise at the end but if I was choosing one of the Redford/Newman flicks it would definitely be Butch and Sundance.

Oh man, quite the list. I had alot of fun reading this one and it reminded me of why I loved some of these movies the first time I saw them, like Seven. That particular moment of the film is one of those times I would love to be able to see a movie for the first time again. It’s just so damn good and it just isn’t the same after that.

Great list! Have to say though 40 is a great number but there were some exclusions that I feel should have been mentioned. There are a lot of good death scenes in the Saw franchises…movies not always that great but some real creative death scenes. History of violence!! Die Hard? Hans Gruber? And perhaps the greatest death scene that didnt make the list (perhaps because he didnt really die…I think) is Robocop!! I mean when they blast the shit out of him in that warehouse and Kurtwood Smith AKA Red Foreman with the shotgun making funny sound effects!!!

Thanks Karl. I have to admit that I somehow just forgot about Hans Grubers plummet to his death. It is such a great scene. You are definitely right about that.

I heart RoboCop, and everytime I watch it the shock of Red Foreman being such a wicked dude is crazy. He’s a really great bad guy though.

    Thanks for visiting the site!

  8. Other scenes you are missing – The Wild Bunch final scene where they walk willingly into impending death to face the Mexican army. If you have not seen this movie you need too. This is a stretch but I would have included Fight Clubs final scene as well, because that is a death in a way.

Waay to many to comment on each – but:

34 – That pic just makes me laugh – I hear ‘WEEEEEEEEEEE’ in my head just looking at it…..

    31 – Original = good. Special Edition = Crap.

25 – Only on the first viewing. Once you know that he’s brought back this just looses any impact with me.

24 – Damn right, would have top 10′d this one.

21 – Track suit justice bitch!

19 – The visual poetry of the ending saved this film for me.

17 – There is death *sad* and death *ha-ha*. This could be my #1 death ha-ha.

Real strong 10 – 1, but I’d throw Leon into #8 and drop doom.

    Nice read.

Marc @ 19, thanks for acknowledging it. I personally think Legends Of The Fall is a wonderful movie. People just seemed to watch it for the sake of seeing Pitt in his long sparkly vampire hair.

    Brad and Marc,

    Yoda iiiiiiiiiiiiiiis good.

    Napier,

Maybe Fight Club isn’t so far fetched. My husband suggested that same idea and I tossed around adding it for awhile.

  15. Fantastic list, but I admit I was disappointed not to see one of my favorites, White Heat, on the list. Cagney’s last moment (“Look Ma, top of the world!”) will always be amongst my favorite film moments.

It wouldn’t be too hard to make a list simply of great WTF? death scenes from “The Departed” and might even be necessary because though I loved Matt Damon’s end, Billy Costigan’s death might have been better — for pure shock factor, it’s unbeatable.
