The Joker
“Oh, you. You just couldn’t let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You are truly incorruptible, aren’t you? Huh? You won’t kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won’t kill you because you’re just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.”
Heath Ledger’s Joker is the best male performance of 2008 hands down. His maniacal depiction of The Joker as a twisted sociopath with no real intention or motivation behind his actions makes him a vicious foe who craves nothing more than chaos, danger, and destruction. The most interesting aspect of the performance was the layers behind the Joker’s seemingly mindless behavior. Even as gruesome as the Joker was, there was something sadistically charming about him. It was Ledger’s truly owning and living the character that made the Joker something so much more profound than a silly comic villain. I found myself breathless during each scene he was in, and unable to move. I can’t speak more highly of what he achieved, and to rise above the expectations I had, I literally find myself dumbfounded. His demonic portrayal of the classic villain is staggering.

One of my favorite character roles of all time. Easily.
He was so maniacal and terrifyingly electric.
no one could ever play this role again…they’d just look stupid in comparison
Heath Ledger was so amazing in his performance. I kept looking for him somewhere but he was totally the Joker. I agree with me. No one else can ever replace him.
Jack Nicholson who? Granted, I haven’t seen every movie ever made, but I can’t possibly fathom a performance as terrific, wonderful, or flabbergasting as Heath Ledger’s The Joker. Heath had left the building; the soul of the Joker was inhabiting his body, saying the words, making the actions. I agree with the posts above, no actor could possibly top or even remotely match this performance. To say that I love it is an understatement, and it is quite possible I need therapy for how much I dig Ledger’s Joker, but his performance is leaps and bounds one of the best acting gigs in the history of cinema.
So everything the other posters said is true, the joker was by far the best performance heath has ever done, dont get me wrong I liked jack’s performance as the joker but andy I am with ya I think I liked heath’s joker enough too seek help as well.
I got to see The Dark Knight a few nights before theatrical release and I had to go by myself. His performance as the Joker was so freaking good that when I left the theater, as I walked down the street late at night by myself, I wanted to walk down the middle of the road shooting passing cars and waiting for Batman to drive straight at me!
It made me feel like a kid again when you see something so cool and amazing that you wish you were that character!
