Review
The hype over scored this flick a bit much for me, but overall it was still a pretty hilarious movie, just not the funniest of the decade. One thing The Hangover isn’t, is predictable. It takes you on a wild ride that is far from your average buddy, stoner , slap stick comedy. It’s crude, insane, and without any regard for anything resembling a story making sense, but by the end this is a completely reasonable resolve to the blanket of mayhem of a bachelor party in Vegas gone completely bonkers. A satirical play on the theme “What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas”, The Hangover is smart beneath it’s simplistic exterior.

Four guys head to Vegas for their bachelor party and as anyone can see, this literally spells out trouble when you see the guys pull away in the soon to be father in laws classic Mercedes. Differentpersonalities collide, but there is one common goal: getting hammered and celebrating. This is achieved and when three of the four guys wake up the next morning in a trashed hotel room that has gained the company of a Tiger and a baby, they begin to wonder exactly how much fun they had since none of the trio can remember what happened. To top everything off the groom himself is missing.

It took me a bit to get connected to the characters and the events because they are so all over the place, and honestly the first thirty minutes or so have kind of a dark feel to them as opposed to a light hearted comedy. When things get out of control is usually when this kind of film makes me uncomfortable, but in this case it was where I let go and the laughs began to come with a greater sense of ease. It was just so ridiculous and outrageous that I could finally embrace the comedy.

Everything about The Hangover is so insane I don’t see how it could have a target audience. Funny in this sense is funny no matter who you are. Slightly offensive at times, but so strange it’s impossible to turn away from. That’s right, this movie is a train wreck full of hysterical moments. It’s also one that I feel may be more enjoyable upon repeat viewings. Being one of the few people that didn’t catch this one in the theatre there was definitely a lot to live up to and sometimes that can set a film on an unfair pedestal. Even with that, I found The Hangover to be a pretty damn funny flick.

As a side note, the soundtrack has some pretty good stuff on it.
I put Stu’s song about tigers on my phone, haha.
I agree, there was a bit too much hype over the flick, but I too found it still pretty hilarious.
Great review!
In this era of more sensitive Judd Apatow-styled bromances, I found “The Hangover” to be a refreshing return to the randy dudecom. It has a number of things going for it: namely, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, a MAJOR find and a terrific comic actor, and the unusual structure. I also like how certain elements are never explained — i.e., where the chicken came from, etc.
youre right this whole movie was insanity, i heard a sequel was in the works too, this is good news!
