Instead of looking at this past year’s greatest films I decided to look to the future and share the films that I am looking forward to seeing in 2011. Let me know what films you are looking forward to seeing the most!
January:
The Green Hornet – January 14th
I love action movies and enjoy comedies so a film like The Green Hornet that combines comedy with some awesome action sequences is a perfect fit for me. I like Seth Rogen and am really excited that Chritoph Waltz is in it as well. Check out the trailer .
The Mechanic – January 28th
Jason Statham looks bad ass in this remake as a contract killer that takes on an apprentice in Ben Foster. The movie also stars Donald Sutherland. This movie has plenty of action and fight sequences to keep me happy. Check out the trailer
February
Unknown – February 18th
Even though this movie looks a lot like Taken in terms of the manner it was shot, I think that this is going to be a damn good movie. It reminds me of Frantic with Harrison Ford to an extent and I loved that movie. Neeson looks awesome as always in this movie. The supporting cast of January Jones, Diane Kruger and Aiden Quinn is great too. Check out the trailer .
Drive Angry 3D – February 28th
This looks like a fun film all around. Nicolas Cage is better in action films and this looks like it will have a perfect amount of gritty violence. This is sure to have lots of intense driving scenes. Check out the trailer
March:
Battle: Los Angeles – March 11th
There is always something that I have loved about alien invasion movies. Battle: Los Angeles looks to have plenty of action, eye candy and a nice story with characters audiences will relate to. Check out the teaser trailer
The Lincoln Lawyer – March 18th
This looks like McConaughey‘s best work to date in my personal opinion. I am tired of seeing him in romantic comedies, this movie looks to have a lot more grit to it. Ryan Phillippe and the rest of the supporting cast look great as well. Check out the trailer .
Paul – March 18th
I have loved Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz so I am very excited to see this film. It has an awesome cast that includes Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. Check out the trailer
Sucker Punch – March 25th
Zack Snyder has delivered what is anticipated as the biggest eyegasm of the year with this movie. I love the number of films that showcase a bad ass group of females like this. I am also happy to see Jon Hamm get more work on the big screen. Check out the trailer .
April
The Beaver – April 8th
I am happy to see Mel Gibson redeem himself and make his return to the big-screen. This movie looks like one of his best roles to date. Check out the trailer
Hanna - April 8th
I have been watching this trailer over and over again and am in love with the look and feel of the movie. Saoirse Ronan looks to be one super bad heroine and Cate Blanchett looks evil which is a nice turn for her. I am loving The Chemical Brothers soundtrack as well. Check out the trailer .
Your Highness – April 8th
David Gordon Green knows how to capitalize on the pot comedy culture and has done it in this film with a great cast. This movie is sure to do well at the box office and simply looks hilarious. Check out the trailer .
Source Code – April 1st (despite the poster)
Duncan Jones did a fabulous job of creating thrills and tension on a much smaller budget with Moon. Source Code definitely has a bigger budget and I am looking forward to seeing how he has put it to use. This looks like a perfect sci-fi thriller. Check out the trailer
Water For Elephants – April 22nd
I know that the majority of my movies so far on the list have been action, sci-fi and comedy so I thought I should include a drama in for good measure. I am not a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon generally, but this looks like one of her best roles. I think Robert Pattinson is a very good actor and it is good to see him outside of the Twililght character in one of his meatier roles to date. Check out the trailer .
Fast Five – April 29th
I was not initially sure I would be interested in seeing another Fast and Furious film. I changed my mind after seeing the first trailer. Now I am more excited about this franchise than I have been since the beginning. Check out the trailer .
May
Thor – May 6th
I am not sold on every apect about this film, but the more I see the trailer on the big screen the more I have good vibes about Chris Hemsworth and the rest of the cast. I am looking forward to seeing if Hawkeye will actually show up in a cameo. Check out the trailer .
Priest – May 13th
Paul Bettany suits up to fight vampires! The movie also stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Maggie Q, Christopher Plummer and Cam Gigandet. Any film where there is going to be some major ass kicking of vampires I am all for. Priest has tons of cool action sequences and a good cast. Check out the trailer .
The Hangover Part 2 – May 27th
The Hangover is a hilarious film that you can watch over and over again. It is up there with Groundhog Day in terms of enjoyment. It will be interesting to see how Todd Phillips will be able to up the ante with the raunchy humor. I am also excited to see the cameos that will include Liam Neeson, Bill Clinton and whomever else decides to pop by.
June:
X-Men: First Class – June 3rd
The cast for this is amazing, I am very excited to see Fassbender and McAvoy together. It almost seems like it will be super hero overload, bu I am very excited that Matthew Vaughn is directing it. Kick-Ass was one of my favorite movie going experiences of 2010!
Super 8 – June 10th
If you have not caught on that I am a sucker for alien movies by now than let me spell it out for your more. I LOVE ALIEN movies, always have and always will. The fact that J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg are involved plus the fact that there is a good cast make this a must see in theaters. Check out the trailer .
July
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt II – July 15th
I am a die hard Harry Potter fan. While some movies in the franchise have been better than others, I am very excited to see this series come to a close.
Captain America: The First Avenger – July 22nd
This is the other comic book adaptation that I am very excited about this year. This looks like it will have more live-action than CGI and I am just fine with that. Chris Evans’ costume looks great and so does all of the production on this film so far.
Cowboys & Aliens -July 29th
The idea of mixing two of my favorite genres, westerns and science fiction on the big screen is great. It is even better to have Jon Favreau helming the project. I am interested in seeing the dynamic between Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford’s characters and Olivia Wilde looks good as ever so I am looking forward to this. Check out the trailer .
August
Fright Night – August 19th
The original is a classic campy horror romp. Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, David Tennantand Christopher Mintz-Plasse are perfectly cast in this remake.
September
Columbiana – September 2nd
Zoe Saldana is smoking so the idea of her being hot and bad ass sounds like a movie I want to see. The stills released like the one above do not show much, but I like the story so I am all set for more ass kicking heroines on screen this coming year.
Now – September 30th
Olivia Wilde, Justin Timberlake and Cillian Murphy are the main reasons I am interested in seeing this film. I was really impressed by Timberlake in The Social Network and I am looking forward to seeing him in an action/sci-fi role. Plus this comes out near my birthday so this will likely be my b-day weekend movie.
October
Contagion – October 21st
With this being one of Steven Soderbergh‘s last films I am all over seeing this in theaters. The cast is amazing with Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Marion Cottilard. The story of this action-thriller revolving around a deadly outbreak seems solid.
November
The Twilight Saga: Breakinn Dawn Pt I – November 18th
I am a sucker for these films, do not hold the fact that they are cheesy as hell against me. I am not ashamed to say that I have actually read all of the books too. So this is one of my guilty pleasures that I actually love seeing. The film is simple entertainment and that is what I look forward to when seeing a movie. For those of you looking for more action, this last film will have a lot of gore and action with of course the perfect amount of romance added in for good measure.
December
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – December 16h
I have enjoyed each of the films so far in this franchise. The cast sounds great for this film and from what I have heard this will be a perfect opportunity to pass the torch from Tom Cruise to Jeremy Renner possibly.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – December 21st
I have seen the first two films in the original series and plan on seeing the third. I am mainly interested in seeing the US version because of David Fincher‘s involvement and the fact that Daniel Craig is in it. I am very interested in seeing how Rooney Mara will be in the role. There is no way she can fill the shoes fully of Rapace, but I am still excited to see how it turns out.
Some interesting flicks in there that I’m looking forward to but I still can’t get by the fact that Rooney Mara is in the remake of Dragon Tattoo. God I can’t stand her!

Cowboys and Aliens, The Mechanic, and of course Sucker Punch are big up there for me. Great list Jim.
After The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo failed to be good, I’m interested to see if Fincher can make a successful adaptation. I like Rooney Mara after The Social Network despite her minor role, so…three reasons to see it right there. Fincher, Mara, potentially good screen version of the novel.
I’ve expressed my feelings on Sucker Punch before but I really don’t see it being my thing. I like Snyder’s style but live-action anime pastiche generally isn’t my thing; this basically looks like a compilation of stuff that a teenage boy thinks is cool.
Source Code, Your Highness, Paul, Cowboys versus Aliens, Thor, and Contagion rank high up there for me.

I can’t wait for Harry Potter! The first movie condensed so much in to two hours, the second movie only has to cover like 10 chapters of Deathly Hallows, so they should follow the book pretty closely, so I’m excited!
Nice list! I like how they are ordered. There are some here I haven’t heard of yet, thanks for sharing!
