Lots of news for this end of May wrap up. First on the block is Movie Mobsters awesome nomination for it’s first LAMMY ever! Apparently some of you spectacular readers and friends decided to vote our site as BEST DESIGN, which I can’t thank you enough for. It’s taking years and much blood, sweat and tears to learn all that’s been learned to get the site where it is at now, and here we are still trying to make it better for you. For you LAMBS that haven’t voted yet, you must! Go to the LAMB and check out the nominees and show your support by voting for your favorite LAMB in each category.
Also on the docket is our FAB FIVE commenting readers. We didn’t have a contest set up for May, so I’d just like to individually mention Frank at Pompous Film Snob, whose site I’ve only recently discovered and has quickly become one of my favorite sites to frequent is our leader this month showing the Mob some serious support 30 comments. He will ultimately be rewarded by joining our Borgata! In second place was the ever prolific and witty Castor from Anomalous Material, and if you haven’t checked out his site by now, you are seriously missing out and need to go immediately and catch up on some incredible posts, not to mention has the most LAMMY nominations out of all 500 eligible LAMBS. If that isn’t sexy, I’m not sure what is. With a respectable third place showing is KAI from The List, who is easily one of the coolest movie guys (and people period) on the Interweb, his posts are some of the most entertaining, smart (thanks to his VERY SEXY editor in chief), and funny. From love letters to Road House and Tremors to awesome collaborations from other bloggers, his site is wicked cool. Coming in fourth on the list was CMrok93 as you might know him and from the site Dan The Man’s Movie Reviews. Without question he has long since been an avid supporter here at the Mob and consistently shows us love with witty and insightful comments. Visit his site for some of my favorite movie reviews, and even more importantly incredible taste in movies. He’ll steer you in the right direction without question. He will also be joining the Borgata throughout June. Rounding up the final and fifth place is Peter from Magic Lantern Film Blog. Peter is also new to me here at the mob, but his site at Magic Lantern is also quickly becoming one of my favorite sites to frequent. It’s visually pleasing and fun to navigate, and is matched equally with stellar content, great interactive posting, and thought provoking reviews! There will be a contest for next months winner and rewarded with a nifty little prize. Also joining the Borgata throughout June is our new friend Peter. All of this will be officially announced within the week. Thanks for all five of you for your continued support and contribution to our site. You know it is appreciated by amounts unbound by time or numbers.
Also coming up for the month of June will be another trio of reviews from Jim, Jon and myself on Toy Story 3, so stay tuned for that. Also, Aragorn and Leonidas is the next Ultimate Deathmatch scheduled, and should be posted within the week. This months Groovers and Mobsters Present: will have a lovely showing about “The Dark Comedy”. For future interest in taking part or contributing, contact Andy at who is the master genius that spearheaded not only this lovely monthly feature, but also the epic Desert Island DVD’s. I was lucky enough to have been invited to do a guest spot at The Film Cynics awesome podcast on June 20th and will be sharing that with you all. What I realized from The Mad Hatters podcast was that I laugh every ten seconds. I’ll try to check that for you all listened. Speaking of podcasts, we are working on creating one for Movie Mobsters here, hosted by myself and Jim. For now Jon wishes to stick to the writing, but I’m pretty sure we can eventually sway him to come on an episode or two, profusely cursing or not.
And that’s about it! Thank you to everyone for continuing to support us. Thank you to THE LAMB for giving us the opportunity to whore ourselves across the web and have the best free advertising ever, and thanks to David Bowie, just because I like to thank him everyday for something.
we both started out knowing each other in our infant blog stages. It is cool to sit back and watch how we have all evolved and grown. I wish you continued success Movie Mobsters!
OH Cello. You know we have mad love for you here at the mob. I’m really rooting for us or for you to win Best Design, and I think it honestly belongs to either of us anyway. Again, we are CHEESY! ha….thought I was going to get you with sexy, huh?
Congrats on the Lammy nomination!
Look at you becoming a podcasting rock star…pretty soon you’re gonna be everywhere. taking over the media one small step at a time eh?
I didn’t notice any excessive laughter when I was cutting your episode, but we all hear ourselves differently right? It does get easier, The more you talk with the intention of playback, the more you’ll be aware of your own little ticks and keep them in check…I for instance try to be aware of my “um’s”
Congrats on your MANY noms Hatter. They are without question well deserved.
I’m kinda exited about guest casting around, and can’t wait to start my own soon enough!
And, I have never noticed your “ums”
I should really be getting my votes in for the Lammys shouldn’t I! I’ll have to do that this weekend. There’s still time right? Man, I’m so slow!
I can’t keep up with everyone and their podcasts, blogs, guest appearances and the like. I need some sort of super pvr for my internets. If only I could just plug it straight into my head and listen while I cleaned up, that would be perfect! HAHA!
Yep, you have until June 7th to vote Will, so go right ahead!
I have a really hard time keeping up with the podcasts. Just keeping up daily with blogposts is enough of a time consumer on this end. Sometimes I post very little on mine because I’m busy visiting everyone else!
Congrats on the Lammy. I hope that, if you win, you send a native American to accept the sheep’s head
Awesome Ruben. ha!
Awww, shucks. Thank you so much for the shout-out. Greatly appreciated. Your hard work and efforts with your site have surely paid off. Like I told you, it looks wonderful and the content is exceptional. I just started Magic Lantern a few months ago so I am still in the infant stages…but sites like yours give me something to shoot for and aspire to and I mean that. I’m trying, but I am doing it solo and it is more time consuming than I thought. Also, still trying to figure out all the design stuff and widgets to garner a larger fanbase. How many people work on Mobsters, out of curiosity? So, yes, I congratulate you again on your well-deserved Lammy nom…I am relatively new to the site, but check it each day. Thanks again….looking forward to reading more and learning more about this subculture of movie fans…enjoying it tremendously.
Three of us write for the site. I’ve been running it for over two years now, and Jim joined me last summer and Jonathan just joined us recently. Both contribute a TON to content and ideas and whatnot, but I do all the basics, such as the web design. That I do all I on my own, so you can definitely to the design stuff yourself. I also have a host site that I pay yearly to have more abilities with design and ads. Once you are comfortable with basic design stuff, that’s something to consider looking into. If you ever have any questions, send me an email, I’m always willing to help. I learned over the years by trial and error, so if I can help someone else avoid that nightmare, I’d love to.
I like how you mentioned the awesome collaborations on my site. Oddly because, I believe, you have been invited on the most… haha. Thanks for the kind words, my dear! I love your site and your posts and have all ready voted for you so it’s out of my hands now… GOOD LUCK!!!
PS. Editor-in-Chief just checks the spelling… I bring the smart!
Well…..anyone who asks me to contribute to their collaborations is golden in my book.
You definitely bring the smart, AND the funny.
Ha, the podcasting is never going to happen, but I appreciate the shout out! I’m pumped to expand this site more and more. It’s been a blast and has definitely produced my best writing to the point I now start here THEN update my regular site.
Your writing is awesome and has given the site a completely different dynamic.
You won’t do it even if we have a podcast dedicated solely to your favorite curse words? hahahaha…………I won’t bug you about it anymore.
Congrats on the nomination for best design, it does look great!
Best of luck!
Thanks Olive. We try to do both style and substance, but I’m not going to complain about getting recognized for style, especially when a lot of work has gone into it. It’s very gratifying for being appreciated, and especially by our own peers.
Well done on the nomination. I can’t wait to hear you pair podcasting.
Thank you Andy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everybody should thank David Bowie. Just being David Bowie. The question is, which David Bowie do you thank? I like late seventies German-influenced Bowie, myself, but I’m also a Ziggy Stardust man.
And congratulations and well deserved on the nominations, lest I forget. That wasn’t Bowie, that was well-earned recognition for hard work. Keep it up.
Sorry, typos about there (as per usual). “Just FOR being David Bowie” and I accidentally pluralised nominations. I really should learn to read back on things.
And, no, I just spell “pluralise” that way because I’m a crazy European.
I want to spell pluarise that way from now on just so I can claim to be a crazy European!
I love all versions of David Bowie, though I’m partial to Ziggy and Jareth Bowie myself. But it’s important to thank him everyday just for something because there are so many sides of Bowie, I’m certain he did something to make life better on that day.
and Thank You!
Don’t know how I missed giving you guys a congratulatory comment for your nomination. But consider it doubly so. CONGRATS, you guys ROCK!!!…now I will go sit in a corner and ponder my negligence:(
Also, I love that last line of the post: “and thanks to David Bowie, just because I like to thank him everyday for something” Stuff like that is the reason I keep coming back to your site:)
Thank you Marc. I don’t think we have an ass blasting chance in hell of winning, but it certainly was a wonderful acknowledgment to even be nominated.
David Bowie…………..I would create a creepy shrine in my room in people wouldn’t have me committed.
