Now that casting has begun for Superman from director Zack Snyder it looks as though the rumors have begun as well. As you know Snyder is looking for an actor between the ages of 28 and 32 to play the man of steel.
The current rumor circulating is that Zack Snyder wants British actor Matthew Goode to play the man of steel. Goode has worked with Snyder in Watchmen, he played superhero Ozymandias so he already has experience as a superhero.
According to MovienewZ
Snyder wants Goode to play mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent and has plans to rely heavily on CGI for The Man of Steel. Essentially this means Superman could be a CG enhanced character, similar to what Warner Bros. is doing with the Green Lantern costume. This would certainly eliminate the need to cast based on the physical stature of Superman.
Goode actually would be a great casting choice. First off, he fits the age range and is tall enough to play the part at t 6 feet 2 inches. What his thin but muscular build does not bring, CGI can easily make up for. He will definitely have to bulk up, but anything is possible as we have seen with Ryan Reynolds in The Green Lantern.
It is still very early in the casting process so don’t expect this rumor to become a reality over night. I personally think Matthew Goode would be a great choice for the role. I like him even better than the other actors in the mix. Of course, I would love to have Jon Hamm in the role, his age precludes him.
What are your thoughts of Matthew Goode in the role of Clark Kent/ Superman? How do you feel about a CGI-enhanced Superman?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!! If anyone is too play Superman, it shouldn’t be Matthew Goode. He’s far too menacing of a performer. If he’s gonna play anyone in the movie, make it a villain.

Or he can just hit some burgers and hit the gym?

I feel like the role of Superman is one that you kind of HAVE to reserve for an American actor. It’s unspoken. No one would ever assign James Bond to an American, so I think assigning the Superhero who is quintessentially “all American” to a Brit is a huge slight. I’m not saying he couldn’t do a good job, I’m just saying I hope Zack Snyder goes in a different direction.

For some reason Lee Pace comes to mind almost immediately when I think of Superman, though he may be more “Clark Kent” than “Superman”…
