Kevin Smith announced that Nicholas Braun has been cast in the lead role of his upcoming hockey comedy titled Hit Somebody during his popular podcast “Hollywood Babble-On.” It was also mentioned that shooting will hopefully begin between July and September of 2011.
Braun appears in Smith’s Red State and has starred in Disney’s Sky High and the ABC Family TV series10 Things I Hate About You.
Earlier this year it was thought that the lead role would go to his Cop Out co-star Sean William Scott. With Scott set to star in the Jay Baruchel hockey comedy Goon, casting him in another Hockey film would not likely be a smart move on Smith’s part.
Simth had the following to say about Braun on his podcast:
“He’s this really really great actor who I love to death and he is the perfect lead for this script… he’s such a good guy, he’s a sweetheart and he’s f*ckin so dope in [Red State]“
I really enjoyed Paul Newman in Slap Shot and there really are not enough quality hockey related films out there. I am excited to see Goon and Smith’s Hit Somebody.
