The Coen Brothers have an Oscar contender on their hands in my opinion. Their film True Grit looks to have their signature touch and looks absolutely amazing. The cast includes Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper. The film follows newcomer Hailee Steinfeld who hires Rooster J Cogburn, played by Bridges, an old and drunk U.S. Marshal and young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf, played by Damon to track down her father’s killer played by Brolin. This film will arrive in theaters on Christmas Day!

What are your thoughts? Do you think this could be an Oscar contender?
Easily going to get nominated. Right now, I have it pegged as #3 on my unpublished new Oscar chart. It has me tickled with excitement (I think I use that expression too much, *sigh*). The cinematography from a lensing icon looks great, the song was absolutely beautiful, and Steinfeld seems as though she might be able to handle her own in a mix of some of the best actors we have today.
Also, this movie seems to be the only chance for the trend of having a great villain as the Supporting Actor winner…the rest of the list is rather boring, so here is to hoping that Brolin does alright.

I think the Academy will steer clear of a villain for supporting actor this year with the last 3 winners playing villains.

Looks like No Country for Old Men, and Unforgiven, got together and made a baby. I saw some good stuff here, looks like an action-packed thrill ride, but since it is a Coens film there will also be plenty of suspense I can bet already. It will defiantly get nominated!

Looks great, much better than I anticipated although it seems Hailee Steinfeld is the main character/protagonist and all the big names are in supporting roles. Looking forward to it!

Its fixed now Kai!
I’m surprised to say it looks damn good. The Coens clearly know how to make a good movie, and with the cast at hand I can’t deny my interest in spite of it being a Western. Definitely got my eyes and ears perked.

The trailer looks like they specifically picked shots and scenes incredibly similar to the first film. I’m hoping that the final film deviates enough to distinguish itself, and I think the Coens will deliver, but I’m just so familiar with the original that it could easily fall into tired remake land.
