Tobey Maguire will produce and star in the film ‘Good People’ to be directed by Niels Arden Opley which will be adapted from a book by Marcus Sakey. Opley is the director of last year’s Swedish film adaptation of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.
Sakey is a native Chicagoan and is known for twist endings in his crime novels. Here is a brief synopsis of the book from :
In increasing debt from failed attempts to produce a child, Tom and Anna can’t resist taking the money they discover hidden in their deceased tenant’s apartment. After the initial euphoria, the Reeds find themselves dealing with a deadly drug dealer who wants something they don’t have, a vengeful robber looking for the money they do have and a suspicious cop who knows they’re holding out on him.
This sounds like an interesting premise and a role that would be a good fit for Maquire in my opinion. What are your thoughts on this bit of news? Does this sound like a film you are interested in seeing?

Sounds like a good project although this type of premise has already been seen before. Glad to see Maguire getting to work again, he really doesn’t make movies all that often.

I’m strangely indifferent to Toby Maguire. I’ve just never been fond of him. He does fine as an actor, but his lack of versatility leaves me dry. I did love him in Wonder Boys though.

This may sound a little odd…but I always feel that although he has a fantastic and captivating face for the big screen and good acting skills, his voice sometimes let’s him down. He just doesn’t manage to convey the emotion required for some roles and I think, as Heather pointed out, there’s a real lack of versatility – For me, that is somewhat linked to his lack of versatility with his voice. It’s a bit like Robert Downey Jr, in that his own personal characteristics seep too strongly into the role. That said, maybe with age he’ll get a bit better.
He looks incredibly Irish – Judging by his name, he must have some strong Irish genes in there!
